II veteran Rod Serling was awarded one of the nation's highest
honors, the Purple Heart, for service to his country. Writer
and actor, his writing garnered him many awards, including several
from the Writer's Guild of America, a Golden Globe, a Television-Radio
Writers' Annual, a Peabody and a half-dozen Emmy's. He was the
on-screen narrator for "The Twilight Zone," which, due to reruns,
remains as popular today as when it first aired. He co-wrote
"Planet Of The Apes." Rod had a great sense of humor, and was
able to poke fun at himself. On some of his early work he once
remarked, "Not since the British raided Cologne had so many
bombs landed in such a small space in such a short time."
