come and go quickly in Hollywood, and few have a professional
life that lasts for decades. John Ford's legendary career spanned
50 years, and during that time he made some of the most famous
pictures in the history of filmmaking. He was the supreme Western
director, though his talent enabled him to master other genres
as well. "Stagecoach," "The Grapes of Wrath," "How Green Was
My Valley," "Mister Roberts" and "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance"
all bear the directorial mark of John Ford. He won the Best
Director Academy Award four times, and remains one of the greatest
names to have ever called out the magic word, "Action."
