A
leading science fiction writer with a Ph.D. in Chemistry
who had asteroids, robots, and Star Trek characters named
after him, Asimov could now end up in computer games,
hand-held electronics, and atomic wristwatches through
a licensing and branding campaign managed by The Roger
Richman Agency, Inc. In addition
to consumer electronics, the agency will position the science fiction legend’s
name and image for licensing in variety of other technological arenas as well
as standard areas of approved advertising and merchandise.
Known
around the world for his expansive body over 500 published
books on a variety of subjects, Asimov was instrumental
in transforming science fiction into a respectable genre
of
literature. Prominent film adaptations of Asimov’s work include “BICENTENNIAL
MAN,” starring Robin Williams, and “I, ROBOT,” starring
Will Smith. “I,
ROBOT” was one of the most popular films of 2004 and generated substantial
box office revenues domestically and internationally. Further adaptations
of Asimov’s work are currently being developed by major studios.
Asimov
was recognized by his trademark “mutton chop” sideburns and
glasses, and was known for his sharp wit and strong work ethic. While best
known for his science fiction work, the stunningly prolific writer has the distinction
of being the only writer with books published in all ten categories of the Dewey
Decimal System.
