leader and trumpeter Harry James once explained his musical
objective. "I want to have a band that really swings and that's
easy to dance to all the time." Born into a circus family, Harry
began performing with the Mighty Haag Circus at the age of 4.
His success as a bandleader led to opportunities in Hollywood
films, where he performed with his band, and even had supporting
and leading roles. Married for over 20 years to pin-up queen
Betty Grable, Harry liked to spend time at the racetrack, and,
along with Betty, owned a horse ranch.
